My First Tennis Competition: A Journey of Nerves and Triumph

Hey everyone!

I just wrapped up my very first tennis competition, and I couldn't wait to share the experience with you all. From the moment I signed up, I knew it would be a mix of excitement and nerves, but nothing could quite prepare me for the roller coaster of emotions that unfolded over the weekend.

The Build-Up

In the weeks leading up to the competition, I felt a blend of anticipation and anxiety. I practised more than ever, focusing on my serve and footwork. Every time I stepped onto the court, I imagined the bright lights and the crowd cheering (even if it was just my parents watching from the sidelines!).

Game Day

When competition day finally arrived, my stomach was doing somersaults. I arrived early to soak in the atmosphere, watching players warm up. Their confidence was inspiring, but it also made me second-guess my own abilities. I tried to stay focused, visualising my best shots.

The Matches

My first match was against a player who had clearly been honing their skills for a while. I started off a bit shaky, missing a few easy shots and feeling the pressure. But with every rally, I settled in. I remembered my training and started to find my rhythm. Even though I lost the match, I learned so much about myself and what I need to work on.

The Lessons

This competition taught me that it’s not just about winning or losing; it’s about growth. I learned to embrace the nerves and use them as fuel. I also realised the importance of sportsmanship, as I interacted with other players, shared laughs, and learned from each other.

Moving Forward

Now that I’ve experienced my first competition, I’m excited to keep improving. I’ve set new goals for myself, focusing on specific skills and tactics. I can't wait for the next tournament!

Thanks for following along on this journey. If you have any tips for future competitions or want to share your own experiences, I’d love to hear them!

Until next time, Aisha Anand 🎾✨
