The Challenge of Switching Tennis Coaches

As I stood on the court, racket in hand, I couldn't help but reflect on the journey I've had with my current coach. After countless hours of practice, hard work, and some unforgettable moments, I've made the decision to switch coaches. It’s a choice that feels necessary but comes with its own challenges.

Over time, I’ve realised that my growth has hit a bit of a plateau. I’ve been craving new techniques and fresh perspectives—something my old coach, while supportive, couldn't provide anymore. Making the decision to move on was tough, but I know it’s time to seek a different approach to improve my game.

Telling my coach was difficult. They’ve put in a lot of effort to help me, and I felt a twinge of guilt in stepping away from that relationship. Still, I know it’s the right decision for my development.

What adds to this transition is the thought of leaving my friends Eshan, Niyathi, Vidhi and Darshan, who have been a great part of my experience on the court. We’ve shared countless practice sessions, matches, and even the occasional friendly competition. I’ll miss the dynamic we had during our training, but I know they’ll continue to support me as I embark on this new chapter.

Switching to a new coach means starting over in some ways. I’m anxious about finding someone who understands my style and can help me improve. There’s always that fear of the unknown—will the new coaching method click with me?

While it’s bittersweet to leave behind what I know, I’m optimistic about the future. I plan to take the lessons I’ve learned with me and apply them in this new setting. Growth often comes with change, and I’m ready to embrace whatever comes next on my tennis journey.
